| Abstract | O trabalho avalia a evolução espacial e temporal de informações socioespaciais para os nove municípios da Região Metropolitana da Baixada Santista (RMBS), São Paulo, sob a ótica da política. Se o mote da criação dessa região metropolitana foi o intenso e rápido processo de metropolização, com consequências variadas para a população e ambiente englobando desde o crescimento da renda e do emprego até processos de segregação socioespacial hoje, enquanto Região Metropolitana legalmente instituída, a Baixada Santista enfrenta dilemas que devem ser discutidos no seu conjunto. No mesmo horizonte de expansão dos serviços e investimentos convivem disputas de diversos atores, pelo uso do territorio, em um contexto de metropolização parcialmente consolidado. O período analisado (última década) revela que as diferenças entre municípios têm se ampliado, fato que atesta que os princípios de solidariedade e coesão que deveriam nortear a RMBS não estão sendo cumpridos. Este trabalho integra o projeto temático FAPESP 2008/58161-1, que visa avaliar impactos e vulnerabilidade de setores brasileiros às mudanças climáticas globais. ABSTRACT: This paper evaluates the spatial and temporal evolution of socio-spatial information for the nine municipalities of the Santos Metropolitan Region (RMBS), São Paulo, from the perspective of its politics. If the reason behind the creation of this metropolitan area was the intense and fast urban growth process, with several consequences for the population and environment - encompassing since the income and employment growth until processes of socio-spatial segregation - Today, as legally instituted Metropolitan Region, the Baixada Santista faces dilemmas that must be discussed together by its municipalities. In the same horizon of expanding services and investment there is the dispute between several actors for the use of the territory, in a context of an almost consolidated metropolization. The analyzed period (last decade) reveals that differences between municipalities have expanded, a fact that shows that the principles of solidarity and cohesion that should guide the RMBS are not being accomplished. This work is part of FAPESP 2008/58161-1 research, which aims to assess impacts and vulnerability of Brazilian sectors to global climate change. | |||
