This paper presents a study on alternative attitude strategies for the orientation of its solar sail with the goal of increasing the spacecrafts orbital maneuverability and its capacity of gaining altitude. Simulations with the use of Planetary Societys published strategy were made and compared with one that keeps the orientation of the solar sail at a direction that maximizes the spacecrafts specific orbital energy gain. A third strategy was proposed, with an additional goal of reducing the number of attitude maneuvers. Results show that it is possible to enhance the altitude gain of the spacecraft and improve the propelling influence of a solar sail while still reducing the number of maneuvers necessary to change the spacecrafts attitude. %E Rodrigues, Aline Castilho, %E Barbosa, Anderson Luis, %E Teixeira, André Ferreira, %E Batista, Carlos Leandro Gomes, %E Oliveira, Caroline Mateus de, %E Cuellar, Dairo Antonio, %T A study on different attitude strategies for the LightSail-2 mission %@electronicmailaddress meireleslg@gmail.com %@electronicmailaddress antonio.prado@inpe.br %@format On-line. %@secondarytype PRE CN INT %K LightSail-2, Solar Sailing, Orbital Mechanics, Optimal Attitude Strategy. %8 18 -20 ago. 2020 %@usergroup simone %@group CMC-ETES-SESPG-INPE-MCTIC-GOV-BR %@group DIDMC-CGETE-INPE-MCTIC-GOV-BR %3 24 - [ARTIGO][INPE] Lucas Meireles.pdf %J São José dos Campos %@issn 2177-3114 %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16d/2020/08.13.13.40.57 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) %@affiliation Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) %I Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m16d/2020/08.13.13.40 %@documentstage not transferred %D 2020 %1 Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %S Anais do 11º Workshop em Engenharia e Tecnologia Espaciais %A Meireles, Lucas Gouvêa, %A Prado, Antonio Fernando Bertachini de Almeida, %A Melo, Cristiano Fiorilo de, %A Pereira, Maria Cecília, %C São José dos Campos %@rightsholder originalauthor yes %@area ETES
