Seasonal climate forecasts are operationally produced at various climate prediction centers around the world. However, these forecasts are rarely objectively integrated in application models to help the end user decision-making process, in spite of recent advances demonstrated through pilot projects in health, agricultural and water resources applications. An example of crop yield forecast produced as part of the EUROBRISA multi-institutional initiative is presented for illustrating some of the challenges. The challenges for moving toward a more objective use of seasonal climate forecasts to help support decision making involve more efficient interaction among climate scientists, system scientists and decision makers, with the end user driving the skill assessment of the entire end-to-end forecasting system through real world forecast applications. %@mirrorrepository sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19@80/2009/08.21.17.02.53 %8 Dec. %N 5-6 %T Challenges for integrating seasonal climate forecasts in user applications %@secondarytype PRE PI %K GEOBASE Subject Index: decision making, integrated approach, seasonality, weather forecasting. %@usergroup administrator %@usergroup marciana %@group CPT-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %@group CPT-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %3 Coelho_and_Costa_2010.pdf %@secondarykey INPE--PRE/ %@issn 1877-3435 %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19/2011/02.15.17.43.19 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %B Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability %@versiontype publisher %P 317-325 %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19/2011/02.15.17.43 %@documentstage not transferred %D 2010 %V 2 %@doi 10.1016/j.cosust.2010.09.002 %A Coelho, C. aioA S, %A Costa, Simone M.
