Other soil moisture and rainfall datasets were also used for the analysis. The information for the soil data came from the Eta regional climate model, and for the rainfall data from the Tropical Rainfall Microwave Mission (TRMM) satellite. Statistical analysis was used to evaluate the quality of the soil moisture and rainfall products, with estimates of the correlation coefficient (R), χ2 and Cramer's phi (φc). The results show high correlations (R > 0.8) of the AMSR-E soil moisture products with the Eta model for different regions of South America. Comparison of soil moisture products with rainfall datasets showed that the AMSR-E C-band soil moisture product was highly correlated with the TRMM satellite rainfall datasets, with the highest values of χ2 and φ. The results show that the AMSR-E C-band soil moisture products contain important information that can be used for various purposes, such as monitoring floods or droughts in arid areas or as input within the framework of an assimilation scheme of numerical weather prediction models. %@mirrorrepository sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19@80/2009/08.21.17.02.53 %8 Dec. %N 23 %T Evaluation of soil moisture from satellite observations over South America %@electronicmailaddress luciana.rossato@cptec.inpe.br %@electronicmailaddress %@electronicmailaddress regina.alvala@cptec.inpe.br %@electronicmailaddress solange.souza@cptec.inpe.br %@secondarytype PRE PI %K soil moisture, satellite observations, South America. %@usergroup administrator %@usergroup valdirene %@group DSA-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %@group %@group CST-CST-INPE-MCT-BR %@group DMD-CPT-INPE-MCT-BR %( sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19/2010/11.22.13.01 %@issn 0143-1161 %2 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19/2011/12.14.12.38.55 %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Department of Hydrology and Geo-Environmental Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %@affiliation Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) %B International Journal of Remote Sensing %@versiontype publisher %P 8013-8031 %4 sid.inpe.br/mtc-m19/2011/12.14.12.38 %@documentstage not transferred %D 2011 %V 32 %@doi 10.1080/01431161.2010.532169 %A Rossato, Luciana, %A de Jeu, R., %A Alvalá, Regina Célia S., %A Souza, Solange Silva de, %@dissemination WEBSCI; PORTALCAPES; MGA; COMPENDEX. %@area MET
